Mortons Neuroma is generally found in Pes Cavus foot types (high-arched feet), but not always, and is caused by compacting nerves or tissue growth between two metatarsals. The nerve needs separation or sometimes surgery based on the severity of pain, which may require a consultation with your physician, as we always recommend.
We can separate your met heads with orthotic modifications and shoes that relieve the forefoot by rolling out of your toe-off phase in your gait cycle. Metatarsal pads are a must when it comes to orthotic solutions and almost always need a reverse Mortons extension to give your hallux space to drop vertically into a neutral forefoot plane.
This, in turn, creates space for your 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th metatarsals. Specific modifications will also need to be made to your orthotics based on your foot type.
