Bunions, known as Hallux Valgus, are deformities of the big toe joint that can be uncomfortable and even painful. Most commonly, forefoot abduction while walking creates pressure on the joint. Forefoot abduction is generally associated with a pes planus foot type, where pronation is occurring. There are stretches and other therapies that can relieve pain, along with orthotic modifications.
Coupled with specific shoes to alleviate forefoot discomfort, these measures can be discussed in your consultation and will prove helpful if you are trying to avoid surgery.
